ST. PAUL — The Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander-Southland track and field team saw two strong seniors run their last races at the Class ‘A’ state track and field meet Saturday.

Elizabeth May took ninth place in the 400-meter dash and she was on the 4 x 400-meter relay team along with senior Danielle Hanson, sophomore McKenzie Kirtz and freshman Sydney Bendtsen that took ninth.

May finished with a flurry, but couldn’t quite hold off St. Peter’s Marta Springer in the final stretch. May finished with a time of 1:00.23 seconds as she missed out on seventh place by .02 of a second.

“I wanted to catch her really bad,” said May, who plans on running at UW-La Crosse next season. “Being in the inside lane, I could see all of the girls and I was trying to my best to stay with them and catch them.”

The GMLOS 4 x 400-meter relay team logged a time of 4:10.59 and it was .03 of a second from eighth place.

“Being my senior year and making it to the state finals is a huge accomplishment, and I’m really proud of what’s happened,” May said.
