Police: Stop tampering with fire hydrants
Someone needs to stop playing firefighter.
Austin Police say someone has tampered with four fire hydrants over the past week on the west side of town. Captain Dave McKichan said the first incident took place Oct. 19 at the 2100 block of Eighth Avenue Northwest, and fire hydrants were broken into at the 2300 block of 10th Avenue Southwest, the 2700 block of Second Avenue Southwest and the intersection of 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue Northwest on Oct. 20, 22 and 25, respectively.
“Obviously our hope is they would stop,” McKichan said of the suspect, as opening fire hydrants as temperatures cool could cause a variety of safety issues. McKichan is asking residents to call with any information concerning the hydrant tamperings.
