Update: Alcohol detected in driver who crossed center line, died in Hwy. 63 crash

The driver who crossed into the wrong lane and was killed in a head-on collision in Mower County on Saturday had been drinking, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The state patrol detected alcohol in the system of 61-year-old David Rettmann, of Gibbon, who died Saturday night on Highway 63 when his 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo collided with a 2011 Kia OLX with three people inside at about 11 p.m.

The Star Tribune named 29-year-old Matt Isaacs, of Rochester, as the driver of the Kia. He was critically injured and transported to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. The state patrol previously did not release his name.

Isaacs’ wife Rebecca, 28, of Rochester, and Marquetta Palmer, 17, city unknown — suffered non life-threatening injuries and were also taken to St. Marys.

Rettmann was heading south on Hwy. 63, crossed into the northbound lane and collided with Isaacs’ car, the patrol said.

Grand Meadow police, fire and ambulance services arrived at the scene, along with Stewartville Fire, Gold Cross Ambulance and Mayo One. Conditions on the undivided roadway were dry.
