Easter assault suspect convicted of two misdemeanors

An Austin man who reportedly assaulted a woman and two teens on Easter was convicted of two gross misdemeanors Monday in Mower County Court and sentenced to 180 days in jail.

Hector Estrada, 32, who originally pleaded not guilty to all five charges against him, pleaded guilty to domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call. He was also convicted on both of those charges on Monday. Two other domestic assault charges and a charge for giving an officer a false name were dropped.

According to the report, Estrada was arrested after he shoved a woman and punched two teenagers in their faces. When police arrived, Estrada had already left the home. According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers used K-9, Bosco, to find Estrada in the same neighborhood hiding in between some bushes and a fence. Estrada allegedly would not come out, but Bosco successfully removed Estrada from hiding.

According to the police report, Estrada also allegedly interfered with a 911 call, provided officers a false name and stole a cell phone.

Police took Estrada to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin where he was treated for the dog bite.
