Facebook page leads to date for local man

Randy Blaser was out for a laugh when he semi-jokingly created a Facebook page asking for a date on Valentine’s Day. One month and a holiday later, Blaser’s bid looks to have worked. Though he didn’t set up a date for Valentine’s Day, he met someone to set up a date later.

“It was just kind of surprising,” Blaser said.

Though the 33-year-old didn’t want to speak too much about his upcoming date, he said he ended up connecting with a woman in Austin through someone who saw his Facebook page, “A Date.”

Blaser initially got attention from people across the country when he created “A Date” in January, asking people to “like” his page and hoping he would get one million “likes,” as his potential one-in-a-million woman could have seen the page. Blaser hadn’t seriously dated in several years and was inspired by other Facebook pages asking for likes to jokingly set one up for himself.

Yet people from across the U.S. took notice, and many local people contacted Blaser after an Austin Daily Herald article on his efforts ran earlier this month.

“You might end up seeing [similar efforts] more often,” Blaser said, as many residents messaged him saying he was brave for putting himself out in the open.

Through his Facebook page, Blaser also reconnected with a lot of people, as many of his friends and acquantainces heard about his goal. All in all, Blaser’s pleased he met so many people.

“It was well worth it,” he said.
