If you haven’t planned it already, watch out for the heat this week.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for the region through 10 p.m. Friday. NWS meteorologists say hot temperatures and high humidity will create “dangerous heat conditions” throughout the week. Heat indices will likely hit 100 to 115 degrees throughout the next couple days, possibly ending Friday.

Residents should plan on drinking plenty of water, working as little outside as possible, taking breaks in shaded or air conditioned places and should watch for signs of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, which can include nausea, disorientation, seizures or a loss of consciousness.

Near record-breaking heat will continue to pummel much of Minnesota for Independence Day.

The heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are posted for the southern two-thirds of Minnesota, with temperatures forecast to hit 100 in the Twin Cities. The heat index in Minneapolis, the feels-like temperature with high humidity, could hit 110.
