Snowy trip took us to Fireside Theatre

Mower County Senior Travel

On our recent trip to Wisconsin to attend the Fireside Theatre’s opening night production of “A Christmas Story, we were met with snow rather than beautiful fall colors.

This night was a gala affair so we were able to meet the cast in a reception. As we did that, it was nice to meet some of the young performers from this holiday favorite.

Of course, the Fireside’s Ralphie was equal to the movie’s Ralphie, who so many families watch together yearly at Christmas time.

Ralphie’s Christmas dream is to get the Red Ryder Carbine BB Gun. Along the way, the outrageous pink bunny pajamas was just one of the obstacles that stood between him and his Christmas dream. This musical captures a simpler time in America with delicious wit and  a heart of gold.

Upcoming trips

•Nov. 13: “Bermuda Avenue Triangle” at the Daytrippers Theatre in Bloomington will be our next theater show. We will depart at 9 a.m. from the south end of Walmart. This comedy will probably hit home for folks who are retiring and dealing with changes and children looking to make new changes in their life. This storyline will keep you laughing as we follow the story of two aging ladies who move into a condo in Las Vegas. A buffet lunch will be served prior to the show. Return time will be about 5:30-6 p.m.

•Dec. 4: “Hark, the Basement ladies Sing.” These ladies continue to delight and entertain us with all their music and humor. The timeline is December 1960, as the ladies deck their Fellowship Hall. Get ready for some embarrassing situations.  Our lunch stop will be in Lakeville prior to the show. This fee is due by Nov. 14.

•Dec 31: The “Church Basement Ladies” always  sell-out performances for shows we attend. With that said, we are offering a second trip to this show for a matinee on Dec. 31.  There will be a holiday buffet prior to the 1 p.m. show if there is enough interest. The sign-up and fee will be due by Dec. 5.

We will be departing at 9 a.m. and return time will be 5:30 p.m.  Non-members are also welcome to join us as we spend the last days of 2019 together. Call our travel number at 1-507-438-3946. Travel office will not be open on Monday for Veterans Day. Otherwise our office is open 9:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday.

We are now in planning mode for travel for 2020, so we will not be at the Mower County Senior Center office on a regular schedule.
