CAB to plan fundraiser after suicide
Community Against Bullying will meet Tuesday night to plan a fundraiser for a family whose child CAB has been told committed suicide after being bullied.
CAB will meet at Neveln Elementary School at 6:30 p.m. to discuss plans to help the family of 13-year-old Rachel Ehmke, who committed suicide over the weekend due to bullying. Her family lives in Kasson, Minn.
A relative of the family contacted CAB organizer Danielle Borgerson-Nesvold over the incident and said the family may be interested in spreading awareness about bullying, according to Borgerson-Nesvold.
“This is so not what we ever want happening anywhere,” Borgerson-Nesvold said.
That’s why CAB will meet to discuss how best to help the family and community in Kasson. Borgerson-Nesvold said any CAB fundraising efforts would go to the family.
Austin residents are already organizing a walk for the family to take place later this month. The “Walk for Rachel” will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at Mill Pond. Organizers will sell $3 bracelets and $7 car window stickers which will say “STOP BULLYING NOW. RACHEL EHMKE 1998-2012.” Free-will donations will also be accepted.
