Two sue city, say police took more than $4K

A duo is suing the city of Austin for $4,863, claiming police wrongfully confiscated money from them while searching a home in Austin.

According to the civil claim filed in Mower County Court, Tangelia Jones, 28, of Austin, and Ernest Pitchford, 32, of Rochester, filed the suit on May 23. Jones stated in the claim that police executed a suspected drug raid at her home on March 23, but only found a small amount of marijuana. However, police found 27 $100 bills, 20 $50 bills, 58 $20 bills and three $1 bills.

Jones wrote in the claim that, “The money was going to my children’s father by my mother to help us get back on our feet.”

A hearing will be held on Aug. 28.
