Alleged aggressor pleads not guilty in Mapleview assault

A Mapleview man who allegedly left several bruises on a woman and put her in a chokehold on Nov. 24 pleaded not guilty Thursday in Mower County Court.

Ronnie Dale Caldwell, 27, pleaded not guilty to felony domestic assault by strangulation, felony terroristic threats and two counts of gross misdemeanor domestic assault for subsequent violations. His pretrial is set for March 28.

Police went to the Mapleview home after they received a call about a domestic dispute after 1:30 a.m. that Saturday. An officer heard shouting when he arrived at the home and arrested Caldwell after he came outside. The victim said she was upset because Caldwell allegedly had a bag of marijuana, so she was going to flush it down the toilet. According to the court complaint, Caldwell left bruises on the woman’s arms and marks on her neck from what the victim said was a chokehold.
