Crime briefs: Man arrested for stealing ex-wife’s car

An Austin man is in the Hennepin County Jail after allegedly taking his ex-wife’s car Sunday morning.

Rashid Rahim, 47, of Austin faces vehicle theft charges after his ex-wife called in her car as stolen, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Rahim talked to his ex-wife around 7 a.m. Sunday asking to borrow her car to pick up clothing from a friend’s house. The victim told Rahim he could as long as that was the only thing he was using it for. Later, when the victim drove by the address Rahim said he’d be at, she didn’t see her car and called the police.

Police from the University of Minnesota — Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis notified Austin authorities around 6:30 p.m. Sunday that the stolen car was found and two people were in custody, Rahim being one of them. Austin police placed a hold on Rahim for vehicle theft charges.

The case has been forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
