Credit card fraud leads to arrests

A couple was arrested Monday afternoon after an Austin woman discovered fraudulent charges on her credit card.

Austin Police arrested a 38-year-old man and 25-year-old woman after the victim and her son-in-law notified authorities about the charges. According to the police report, the son-in-law, who had permission to use the credit card, gave the card to the 38-year-old suspect. The mother-in-law later discovered about $800 in unauthorized charges.

The report adds the two suspects, angered, went to the victim’s house after that information was given to police. The 38-year-old reportedly tried to break into the home and threatened the victims. Police found the suspect within a block of that home, along with the 25-year-old woman. The man was arrested and held for possible assault and fraud charges. The woman was also arrested for giving officers a false name and having no driver’s license. That woman also allegedly stole a UPS package with $1,700 worth of prescription medication in late December.
