Walter scores 25 as Athletics snap skid in Grand Meadow
The Lyle-Pacelli girls basketball team received a much needed boost from eighth grader Courtney Walter as the Athletics snapped a three-game losing skid with a 64-53 win at Grand Meadow (2-3 overall, 1-3 SEC) Tuesday.
L-P (2-3 overall, 2-2 SEC) led 43-25 early in the second half, but Ann Rysavy, who scored 14 points, fouled out with eight minutes left and GM got as close as seven twice.
Walter drilled seven threes and scored 28 points to keep the Superlarks from getting any closer.
“We had to rely on Courtney and she took over, handled the ball and ran the show,” LP head coach Brad Walter said. “We looked really good at times tonight and it was good to get a good win against a good team that’s very similar to us.”
Audra Durhman scored 22 points and Autumn Thorsen added 18 points for GM, which trailed 25-11 early on but battled back to 33-23 at the half.
“Walter was on fire and we had our hands in our face at times,” GM head coach Dawn Baudoin said. “I tip my hat to her.”
