Final year of Vikings’ contract with Mankato

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings say the team is working on extending its contract to hold training camp in Mankato.

The Vikings and the city are in the final year of a 4-year contract with the city as the team settles into its 47th training camp in Mankato. Team spokesman Jeff Anderson says the Vikings are happy with the relationship with Minnesota State University.

MSU finance administrator Rick Straka tells The Free Press the university receives about $100,000 from the team for hosting training camp. Area businesses also reap the benefits of having the Vikings players and fans in town.

It’s the last year the Vikings will use Gage Hall. It will be demolished and a new residence hall will be built.
