Walz hosts district-wide student art contest

Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., kicked off the 2013 Congressional Art Competition Monday by inviting high school students from across Minnesota’s 1st District to submit their artwork for the contest.

“The chance to see winning artwork from talented students all across the county is my favorite part of walking between committee hearings and meetings with constituents in Washington,” said Walz. “I can’t wait to see the winning piece from the talented students in southern Minnesota this year.”

The first place winner will have their artwork displayed in the Cannon Tunnel, leading to the U.S. Capitol, for one year. The art contest is free and open to students in grades nine through 12. Paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography will all be considered.

For contest guidelines, students can visit walz.house.gov and click on the “2013 Congressional Art Competition” link under Constituent Services.
