Kitty comedy night for a cause

Hoss is just one kitty who came to the shelter earlier this month who is up for adoption. The humane society is holding a Comedy Night fundraiser Wednesday so MCHS volunteers can help cats like Hoss find homes. — Trey Mewes/trey.mewes@austindailyherald.com

The Mower County Humane Society’s second annual Comedy Night takes place this Wednesday at the Paramount Theatre.

“We had a pretty good turnout last year,” said MCHS volunteer Kelly Rush. Rush said MCHS filled the Paramount’s floor seats and cleared about $1,000 last year thanks to the comedians, like Austin native Scott Oelkers, who volunteered their time.

Oelkers will be the emcee again this year. He’s a regular at Goonies Comedy Club in Rochester and will preside over Wednesday’s revelry. Six Minnesota-based comedians will entertain the audience. The show is suited for adult audiences.

In addition, the Austin Jaycees will be on hand to help the night along through beer and wine sales. Rush said the alcohol profits will go to the humane society.

The Comedy Night starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are $10.
