Cancer week winding down

There are only a few days left, so it’s time to push it into overdrive and kick cancer’s butt with Paint the Town Pink.

Movie night

1.) What better way to kick off Friday night with a cheap movie that doubles as a fundraiser? Check out “Pretty in Pink,” at the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NE. The movie is just $5 and proceeds go toward Paint the Town Pink.

Happy hour

2.) Can’t sit still? OK. Check out Torge’s happy hour fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. Friday inside the Holiday Inn, 1701 Fourth St. NW. A dollar from every drink will go to support Paint the Town Pink, as well.

Small-town support

3) Remember to help out the small towns, too. Sacred Heart School in Adams, right on Main Street, is holding its annual winter banquet and auction. The event starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, and tickets are $50 per person.

Back to the ‘80s

4) I want to rock, and so does St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin, 1200 13th Ave. NW. The youth at St. John’s are hosting their annual winter dinner with an 80s kick. The rock-themed dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday will have burgers, dogs, fixings and is open to free-will offering.

Dreaded Mondays

5) Oh, Monday. We may be dreading it, but Riverland has something to take the edge off. Riverland Theatre is showing Scratch Track Music, history of racism in popular music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Frank W. Bridges Theatre. The event is free. Go ahead, take a longer lunch hour.

Other events

Don’t forget, Thursday is Valentine’s Day, so all of you who are taken, find something nice for the honey. Drop some cash on the loved one and try the Sweetheart Dinner with Dueling Pianos at the Hormel Historic Home.

Look to Reporter Matt Peterson’s column every Friday for more about upcoming events in Austin. For even more, check out the calendar on Page 4 every day in the print edition and the AustinDailyHerald.com homepage.
