Turtle Creek flood project meeting set for Wednesday

Austin officials are ready to answer questions about flood mitigation efforts at Turtle Creek.

The city of Austin will hold an informational meeting on the Turtle Creek flood mitigation project at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday inside the City Council Chambers.

Public Works Director Steven Lang said city officials would go through the same information shared with council members at the meeting and clarify concerns residents may have.

“We had some residents voice some concern at some council meetings,” he said Monday.

The project involves buying property along key areas of the creek, building berms and other flood mitigation structures, and assisting individual property owners flood-proof themselves. The $4 million project is scheduled to start next year and finish in 2015. Lang said about half of the project costs are covered through state bonding funds and a grant from the state Department of Natural Resources.
