Hollandale Christian School fall supper is Nov. 4

The Hollandale Christian School is gearing up for its second-largest fundraiser of the year.

It’s the school’s annual fall supper, which will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. Among all the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and desserts, the school will look for free-will donations to put toward its general funds.

In the past, the school has used the donations for all types of building repairs and maintenance. This year, school officials hope to raise enough money for new flooring in classrooms. Secretary/Treasurer Lauri Olson said the fall dinner usually raises anywhere from $7,000 to $10,000, and it’s a staple of the school’s operation. It’s been happening for so many years, Olson said she and others can’t find anybody who knows when it actually started.

“I don’t think anybody knows that,” she said. “We were trying to decide a while ago, but nobody has the answer to that one. We’ve been here since 1950, and we cannot find any record of when it began.”

The Christian school, which houses 77 students in Kindergarten through eighth grade, relies on donations throughout each year. For that reason, it also holds an annual spring fundraiser. Olson said that is the biggest fundraiser of the year, when school officials and parents hope to raise $30,000 or more through auctions and donations from businesses and individuals.
