Argument over dog kennel leads to alleged choking

An Austin man who allegedly choked his ex-girlfriend as they argued about a dog kennel pleaded not guilty to four criminal charges Thursday.

Jesse Coy Brady, 32, faces three domestic assault charges and one count of felony terroristic threats.

The alleged assault happened July 15, when Brady was moving his belongings out of his ex-girlfriend’s house. According to a court complaint, Brady became confrontational as the two were arguing over a dog kennel.

The woman told police Brady pushed the kennel into her, causing an injury on her arm. He then allegedly grabbed her by the neck and told her he would kill her. Brady choked the woman for about 10 seconds, to the point she couldn’t breathe, according to the court complaint.

Officers observed red marks on the woman’s neck, arm and back consistent with her claims.

Brady’s father, who was at the house but not in the same room at the time of the alleged assault, said he didn’t see anything happen and didn’t see any injuries on the woman.

Court documents indicate Brady has two previous domestic assault convictions in 2001 and 2006.

His jury trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 3 in Mower County District Court.
