Suspect changes assault plea to guilty

A Mapleview man who reportedly left several bruises on a woman and put her in a chokehold on Nov. 24, 2012, pleaded guilty Friday in Mower County Court.

Ronnie Dale Caldwell, 27, pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor domestic assault. Charges for assault by strangulation, terroristic threats and an additional gross misdemeanor domestic assault for subsequent violation were dismissed.

Police went to the Mapleview home after they received a call about a domestic dispute after 1:30 a.m. that Saturday. An officer heard shouting when he arrived at the home and arrested Caldwell after he came outside. The victim said she was upset because Caldwell reportedly had a bag of marijuana, so she was going to flush it down the toilet. According to the court complaint, Caldwell left bruises on the woman’s arms and marks on her neck from what the victim said was a chokehold.
