Easter Bunny, Bruiser and Sparky to make appearances at mall

Younkers and the Oak Park Mall are teaming up for a big day for kids.

The Oak Park Mall Kids Day is set for this Saturday. Many mall stores will have fun activities ready and children will get the chance to see Bruiser the Bruins Bear, the Easter Bunny, and Sparky the Fire Dog.

“The mall is just blossoming,” said Shan Kehret, Oak Park Mall manager.

The event started out as a collaboration between Younkers and Kehret, growing into a large event. Though the event is technically from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., many businesses have something for children at some point Saturday:

—CineMagic 7 will have a free kids movie starting at 10 a.m.

—Dustin DeBoer of the Austin Area Arts Center will hold a Kandid Kids Photo Shoot at Community Room 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

—Sears will have free sno-cones from noon to 3 p.m.

—Two Bears Trading Post will have leather stamping.

—Ole’ Barn BBQ’s Machine Shed arcade will be free from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. as well as free popcorn.

—Younkers will host a Kids Fashion Show starting at 12:30 p.m.

—The Austin Area Arts Center will have facepainting and an art walkthrough.

—There will be bunnies inside the old JC Penney for the Cedar River Rabbit event.

“It’s going to be wonderful,” Kehret said.

The Easter Bunny appeared excited for the event but declined to comment, instead choosing to wrinkle his nose and look for candy.
