Nobody feeds Austinites as much chicken and corn as the Austin Rotary Club.

The club is holding its 37th annual chicken and corn feed from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, once again at St. Edward’s Corcoran Center at 2001 Second Ave. NW. Tickets are $7 for adults in advance or $8 at the door and include fried chicken, sweet corn from Honey Tree Farms and more. Children 3 to 10 are $5, younger are free. Carry-out orders are available, too.

The chicken and corn feed is Rotary’s yearly and only fundraiser, for which it will use funds to support many projects, both locally and internationally.

“It’s a great fundraiser that can help us with international and local projects that Rotary Club works toward and tries to put together,” said Brad Bergstrom, Rotary president, eight-year member and Austin High School principal.

Bergstrom was asked to serve as the Rotary president and is now in his second year in that position, a rewarding one for him.

“When I was asked if I wanted to serve as the president, I was quite honored that they thought I could do that,” Bergstrom said, and added, “It’s a wonderful, very fulfilling job to have.”

Projects in the last year from the annual fundraiser have included upkeep at Rotary Park, funds for erradicating Polio and funds for the United Way to provide local services.

This year’s funds will also help send used fire equipment to Nicaragua and start a local STRIVE program (Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education. Mentors will show Austin High School students why staying in school is important and what it means to be a good citizen.
