Breakup allegedly ends in assault

A 20-year-old rural Austin man is in the Mower County jail after he allegedly assaulted a 19-year-old woman on Sunday.

According to the police report, officers went to the 1000 block of Third Avenue NW where a witness and the victim claimed Jarred Salisbury assaulted the victim. The report adds that the victim was breaking up with Salisbury and would not give him a goodbye kiss after Salisbury gave her a ride home. Salisbury then allegedly grabbed the woman’s neck and pushed her back against the seat. The victim states that she may have briefly blacked out and was scared that Salisbury would hit her.

When officers arrived, the witness corroborated the victim’s story. Salisbury had also allegedly punched the passenger side rear view mirror off of the car he was driving, as well. Salisbury was arrested for domestic assault by strangulation and property damage and is in the Mower County jail pending formal charges.
