Kenneth Booen, 83

The funeral service for Kenneth Duane Booen of Hewitt and Deer Creek will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Center in Hewitt. Friends may call at the Community Center on Tuesday from noon until the time of service. Ken died at the age of 83 on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, in Altoona, Iowa, from advanced stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

Kenneth Duane Booen was born to James and Mabel (Krenz) Booen on Sept. 1, 1930, in Woodside Township, Todd County. Ken and Beverly Jane Walker were united in marriage on April 19, 1952 in Hewitt. Ken worked as a plant manager for Mid America Dairyman for more than 40 years serving in Bertha, Corning and Des Moines. He also worked many years delivering cars for Mid States Auto Auction out of New York Mills. Ken found great joy in gardening, hunting, fishing and dancing.

Ken is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly Jane Booen of Altoona, Iowa; daughters, Kathryn Buker of Albert Lea, Deanna (Robert) Mullenbach of Austin, Bonnie (Roger) Stuart of Altoona, Connie (Clay) Willey of Pleasant Hills, Iowa, Susan (Robert) Hopkins of West Des Moines, Iowa; sons, Michael (April) Booen of Underwood and Gary (Karen) Booen of St Cloud; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard Booen, Donald Booen and Lyle Booen; sisters, Shirley Zuehlke, Avis Robbin, Gloria Booen, Nora Booen, Dorothy Hofferbert and Lois Lynch; brother-in-law, Larry Walker; and sisters-in-law, Josephine Fern and Sandra South.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents James and Mabel Booen; in-laws, Leo and Wilma Walker; brothers Lloyd Booen and Robert Booen; sister, Norma Zuelhke; son-in-law, Dennis Buker; granddaughter, Farrah Buker; great-grandson, Johnathon Huffmann; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Branstner and Glenice Buschke.

Burial will be at a later date at the Hewitt Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Schuller Family Funeral Home in Bertha. The funeral home can be found online at www.SchullerFamilyFH.com.
