Benefit auction will help cover late Austin woman’s medical costs

A benefit auction for Lynne Baxter Shada will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hiawatha Bar in Austin.

Shada, 58, was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer in November, and the disease spread to her liver in March. She passed away on June 1. The Hiawatha Bar will auction off donated items to help cover Shada’s medical expenses.

“It’s going to go toward helping with medical expenses,” said Michele Morehouse, organizer of the auction. Morehouse said although the auction was originally planned before Shada’s passing, it would continue as planned.

She said donated items are greatly appreciated, and can be dropped off at the bar between now and the auction on Saturday. Morehouse said she can answer any questions about the auction at 507-433-7023.

Shada, who had worked for the last 11 years for IBI Data in Brownsdale, had helped with benefits and breakfasts at the Eagles Club and worked dinners and bingo at the VFW. She was an avid pool player and liked darts, bowling and horseshoes as well.

Shada was born on July 11, 1953 in Austin to Gaylord and Connie Baxter. She is survived by her two children, Philip Shada of Madison, S.D., and Jeanette Shada of Austin, and her four grandchildren, Leticia, Anthonio, Mathias and Selena.
