Minneapolis man in Mower County jail after alleged theft

A Minneapolis man is in Mower County Jail after his third run-in with local police in just several days.

Police arrested Lamarr Lucky Smith, 26, after he allegedly stole a $33 bottle of Hennessy from Bell Liquor in Austin shortly before 3 p.m. Monday. According to the police report, a Bell employee asked Smith where he was going as he went for the exit with the bottle in his hand.

“I’m taking this from you,” Smith allegedly told the store clerk.

The report then states that the employee tried to block Smith’s path, but Smith pushed her aside and walked down the street.

Bystanders allegedly told police that Smith had gone into a home in the 200 block of Third Avenue SE, where police eventually found him in the basement and arrested him.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, that was the third time police confronted Smith in the past three days. Police allegedly confronted Smith in previous days for trespassing and falling off a bike while intoxicated — for which he was taken to detox.

Smith is being held in Mower County Jail to prevent any further criminal activity, Krueger said.
