Convicted check forger charged another time
A felon previously convicted in Mower County has again been charged with felony check forgery.
Amy Kathryn Potter, 28, of St. Ansgar, made her first appearance Monday on charges of check forgery — alter check, and check forgery with intent to defraud. According to the court complaint, Potter deposited a $6,275.48 check into a local bank and took $1,275.48 of that amount in cash. The bank later notified authorities about multiple attempts to get money from Potter as the bank was unable to locate the check’s account.
Authorities discovered Potter was in jail in Mitchell County, Iowa, for writing a bad check, according to the court complaint. A detective interviewed Potter, who admitted to filling out the information on the check and depositing it, but denied signing it.
Potter was convicted in September 2011 for felony check forger in Mower County. Her next court date is set for Nov. 1.
