Fire safety in pictures: Children to make posters to promote safety
Local youngsters will show off their artistic abilities Thursday, along with how those abilities can best deliver the message of fire safety.
Austin Fire Department, McDonald’s, Target and Echo Lanes will sponsor the annual Fire Poster Contest winners party at 3:15 p.m. that day. The event will be at McDonald’s, 1009 Oakland Ave. W. Nearly 375 fourth-graders participate in the Junior Fire Safety Program locally. Each child is expected to create a fire safety poster for the contest. Two children from each school — Pacelli, Banfield, Neveln, Southgate and Sumner — are chosen as poster winners.
The overall fire safety poster winner, which will be announced Thursday, will be entered into the state competition.
