QB stands his ground on pride
Austin senior quarterback Ryan Synoground doesn’t stand out in a crowd.
In fact, it’s likely the undersized signal caller might slip into the background.
But when you look at heart and the will to win, Synoground has what most coaches are looking for.
Synoground didn’t begin his junior season as the starting quarterback; he had to work his way up.
When he did get to the starting spot, Synoground took his fair share of hits as he threw for 1,404 yards, 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 253 yards and three touchdowns.
Despite taking hits from much bigger players, Synoground didn’t complain and he finished the season healthy.
“It was just pride,” Synoground said. “I’m not just out there playing for myself. I’m playing for the team, I’m playing for God, I’m playing for the coaches and I’m playing for the town. To give them anything less than my best is disrespectful.”
This year, Synoground should be in much better shape. The Packers’ offensive line looks to be improved and a quality running game could give him much more time to throw.
“I’m really excited. We really worked hard this summer and I have high expectations. From an offensive standpoint, we’re really starting to click,” Synoground said. “Those guys are in the weight room every day getting faster and stronger. The line is looking good.”
