AFD: ‘Clear snow around fire hydrants’

Due to the large volume of snow Mower County has received over the past few weeks, the Austin Fire Department is reminding residents to clear snow and ice from around fire hydrants on their property.

Property owners are asked to leave a three-foot wide perimeter around the hydrant and a path to the street. This protects all those in the area and assists emergency personnel by providing immediate access to hydrants when needed. In the event of a fire, every second counts.

With more snow expected in the forecast, the AFD asks that you please take time to clear around your hydrants when you are shoveling your sidewalks or driveways. The safety of the community is of the utmost importance.
