Austin boys golfers miss out on state

HASTINGS — The Austin boys golf team didn’t send any golfers to state at the Section 1AAA meet in Hastings Monday.

Austin senior Alex Thorson missed out on getting back to state, despite having a solid showing on Monday.

Thorson shot nine strokes better than he did Thursday with a 74, but his two-day score of 157 wasn’t enough to get him to state.

Thorson ended up missing the cut by three strokes as Winona’s Will Leaf had the top score with a 141.

“The entire field shot very low today,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “He really bared down and focused on his game today. I’d like to say that today wasn’t enough, but we have to remember this is a two day event.”

Austin boys scores: Alex Thorson, 157; James Snee, 180; Tony Baudler, 185
