Blaze damages apartments, displaces residents
Nobody was hurt after a Tuesday morning fire in Austin; however, 12 people were displaced from the building.
The Austin Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday after a police officer on patrol heard yelling in the 800 block of Fourth Street Northwest. According to the police report, someone from the apartments noticed smoke coming from a window on the top floor, and the officer made sure everyone was evacuated from the building.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the apartments are no longer habitable, according to the Red Cross. The Red Cross has been providing assistance to the families, including lodging, food, clothing and emotional support.
According to the police report, the cause of the blaze is still unknown.
