Tickets on sale for 69th season of Artist Series

The Austin Artist Series is back for a 69th season, and what could be the biggest season yet.

Tickets are on sale for the upcoming AAS season, consisting of five shows ranging from a classical performance to a comedy, a wondrous Celtic dance to some old-time country.

“It’s really a tremendous program,” said Shirley Cahill, AAS publicity chairwoman.

The first show, at 7 p.m. Oct. 23, brings the Siberian Virtuosi to town. The internationally renowned violin ensemble will showcase several classic pieces while touring the U.S. for the first time.

The acclaimed group Celtic Fire will perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 as well, bringing Irish music and dance to the stage.

Arguably the biggest draw to this season will be the “Church Basement Ladies, A Second Helping,” the famously quaint musical all about Midwestern life with good, clean fun. A family show, AAS officials expect a massive amount of interest once the Church Basement Ladies come to town Jan. 21, 2013.

“They are wonderful,” Cahill said.

Jim Curry, the John Denver tribute artist, will bring Denver’s music to life with “Take Me Home,” a country program rolling into town April 21. Finally, a tribute to the days of tap-dancing and showtunes, “Two on Tap,” will come marchin’ in May 9. All shows are at Knowlton Auditorium inside Austin High School.

Yet as always, residents must purchase season tickets for the show during the fall two-week sales campaign, which takes place Sept. 4-18. Previous AAS members will receive a phone call about the tickets, but residents can also call Phil Burkhart at 433-3960. Season tickets cost $10 for students, $35 for adults, $75 for families.
