State swim meet prelims: Brehmer settles for two consolation finals
MINNEAPOLIS – Austin junior Nick Brehmer will have to settle for swimming in two consolation races after he missed out on the finals in both of his races at the Class ‘A’ boys swimming and diving preliminaries at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis Friday.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Brehmer finished 10th with a time of 1:48.06, which was faster than his seeded time, but still four-tenths of a second away from getting him to the finals.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Brehmer finished 15th with a time 49.16, which was faster than his seeded time, but half a second from getting him to the finals.
The best Brehmer can do in either race is ninth place as he will swim in the consolations finals Saturday.
The Austin boys 400-yard freestyle relay team of Craig Heimark, Ian Christopherson, Carson Hackel and Brehmer had its run at state come to an end when it finished in 20th place in the prelims.
The Packers finished with a time of 3:27.74, which was two and a half seconds from making it to Saturday’s consolation final.
Austin diver Caleb Bentley, who is currently in 16th place, will also compete in Saturday’s finals.
