Apple Lane staff, families and children held a food drive at the end of November. They donated 170 pounds of food to the Austin Salvation Army food shelf. For many years, Apple Lane has had an annual food drive to support the local food shelf.

 Duplicate Bridge

Tournament results for Dec. 4 with four tables played: first, Lu Schmitt and Loren Cleland; second-place tie, Bud Higgins and Jim Fisher, and Eunice Michaelis and Warren Behrends; third-place tie, Cleo Osmundson and Rich Stroup, and Dave Ring and Orrion Roisen.

A Duplicate Bridge Christmas party will be held 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 18 at the Senior Center.

Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Mower County Senior Center in Austin. All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 507-434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.

 Golden Age Club

Karen Machacek, vice president, conducted the monthly Golden Age Club meeting on Dec. 4.

In the absence of Dee Murphy, chaplain, Ruth Van Hooser read the poem, “Life is Short.”

A motion was made by Jacky Kottner and seconded by Sylvia Ginder to accept the secretary and treasurer’s reports as read.

Cards were played at seven tables. Dorothy Cummings and Sharon Hunter furnished and served the lunch.

A sympathy card was sent to Dorothy Schloo, death of son, and get-well card to Betty Rabin, broke her shoulder.

Out-of-town visitors have captured the spirit of the camaraderie of friendship, delicious food, and delightful fun on the dance floor. One-time visitors are now members. Pictured here are David and Sally Arrindell from Rochester.

Other out-of-towners come from Albert Lea and Lyle.

The Christmas dance was held Dec. 3 at the Austin Country Club, hosted by Terry and Diane Dorsey, chairmen, assisted by Leon and Phyllis Jacobson, Chuck and Audrey Larson, Dr. Richard and Gloria Nordin and LeRoy Koch and Mary Wolcott. Dance Music was furnished by Rush Hour Combo.

The next dinner/dance will be held May 6, 2014, with Steve Krob’s Reminisce Dance Band on deck. June 3 will feature music of The Big Band.
