Woodson expansion kicks off Monday
It will be a big day for a small school.
Austin Public Schools will break ground on the Woodson Kindergarten Center expansion at 10 a.m. next Monday. The project is part of the $28.9 million bond referendum voters supported last November, which also funds a new fifth- and sixth-grade school near Ellis Middle School.
“The fact that we’re on schedule is a good sign,” said Mark Stotts, finance and operations director.
The Woodson expansion will take place this summer at the same time as a heating and cooling system renovation. The Austin Public School board awarded the project to Austin company Wagner Construction for about $1.37 million, which is about $240,000 under budget. Construction is set to end Aug. 17 before Woodson starts school this fall. Woodson students on Sumner Elementary School’s alternative calendar will have school at a different building for the first few weeks.
