This summer, LIFE Mower County is buzzing with activities, programs, and opportunities that bring people of all abilities together. Whether you’re looking to get involved in sports, spend time with friends, or support a great cause, there’s something for everyone.

Support for Families and Caregivers

Are you a parent or caregiver of someone with I/DD? You’re not alone. LIFE Mower County offers the Parent & Caregiver Connection, a welcoming support group that meets every other month. It’s a safe place to share stories, ask questions, and connect with others who understand your journey. Meetings include guest speakers, helpful resources, and peer support.

Need a break? That’s where SPARKS comes in. This fun and safe respite program gives individuals with I/DD the chance to enjoy arts and crafts, games, and sensory play while caregivers take time for themselves. SPARKS is run by caring staff who make sure everyone feels welcome and included.

Speaking Up and Taking Action

LIFE Mower County also supports self-advocacy through SAM (Self-Advocates of Minnesota) and the People First Aktion Club. These programs empower individuals with I/DD to use their voices, make choices, and take part in their communities.

Fun for Everyone

This summer, there’s something for everyone—from relaxing movie nights to exciting trips! Adult day trips include dinners and movies like Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, and Freakier Friday, plus outings to the Freeborn and Steele County Fairs, mini golf, and a riverboat tour in Winona.

Looking for friendly competition? Special Olympics programs like bocce (competition coming in July), cardio drumming, cornhole, horseshoes are in full swing, and disc golf returns in September.

Younger participants can enjoy Family Game Nights, Teen Connect, and the Stars and Stripes Dance, where both youth and adults are welcome to dance the night away.

Making a Difference

LIFE Mower County is more than just fun—it’s a place where people grow, connect, and thrive. That’s why the organization has launched its Summer Appeal: Sunny Days, Brighter Futures. Donations help keep programs like SPARKS, Special Olympics, and support groups going strong all year long. Learn how to give at www.lifemowercounty.org/summerappeal.

And don’t forget—Taste of Mower County returns on Oct. 12! This popular fundraiser features delicious tastings from local chefs and vendors. Planning is underway now, and event sponsors and tasting partners are welcome. Details can be found at www.lifemowercounty.org/tomc.
