Warren D. Briggs, 83
In Loving Memory of Warren D. Briggs
Warren D. Briggs, 83, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at St. Mary’s hospital on June 9th. He left behind a legacy of hard work, persistence and maybe just a bit of stubbornness.
Born on March 14, 1942 to Douglas and Saralda Briggs, Warren was a graduate of Austin High School. He may not have been fond of school, but he absorbed the lessons of life with determination. He served his country for two years in the U.S. Army in a Transportation Unit. Warren spent years working with the P9 union at Hormel, playing a role in the history of Austin, MN. He cared deeply about the rights and well-being of workers and was proud to be part of that movement. Warren found great pride in his time working for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, where he served with diligence before retiring. His career was a testament to his strong work ethic and dedication to keeping Minnesota moving forward.
Warren’s greatest joy was his family and his beloved wife, Dona. He raised three daughters and two step-daughters—Renae (Ron) Jensen, Kris Heichel (Tim Hickey), Kim (Marty) Tufte, Stephanie (Kevin) Murphy, and Stacey (Josh) Forrester. His greatest source of pride was his family, including his thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his wisdom, strength and humor.
Warren loved vacationing in Northern Minnesota, where he spent many summers teaching his children and grandchildren the joys of swimming, tubing, water-skiing, and fishing. Although he was always happy to share his skills, he never quite got around to teaching them how to clean fish—after all, they were always “too small.”
He also found joy in dancing to the classic hits of the 50s and 60s, even if his dancing skills would not win any awards. NASCAR races were another passion, where he cheered on his favorite drivers with enthusiasm. At home, Warren took great pride in his house and yard, keeping everything in impeccable condition—a reflection of his dedication and care in all aspects of his life.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Saralda (Osmundson) Briggs, his infant daughter Stephanie Kay Briggs, and his sister Cheryl Clancy. In addition to his family mentioned above, he is survived by his siblings Charles Briggs and Julie Briggs.
Warren will be remembered not only for his contributions to his work and community but for the moments of love, laughter, and wisdom he shared with those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be greatly and deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 14th at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Dr. Kristen Venne officiating. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary for one hour before the service. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery and a reception will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary following the interment service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
