Just in time for summer, the Austin area is about to get its first legitimate heatwave of year.
The National Weather Service will be issuing an extreme heat watch that will go into effect at noon on Saturday and go through to 9 p.m. Sunday.
According to the NWS, the area can expect a high around 94 for both Saturday and Sunday with indexes of up to 105 possible.
Heat related illnesses are possible due to these events.
The heat comes after a long stretch of rain that has raised the total precipitation for the area so far this year to just under 17 inches of rain, over the normal of 16.25 inches.
