A fire Sunday has claimed a garage and damaged a home in Austin.

According to Fire Chief Jim McCoy, firefighters were dispatched to the 1600 block of First Avenue SE at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday where they discovered a garage with a roof that had burned through. The house on the same property was burning on the outside as well as a home to the east of the property.

McCoy said the cause of the blaze appears to be a torch used in the burning of weeds that accidentally started the fire.
