An Austin man with a history of domestic assault convictions and who will be sentenced in a pair of those cases at the end of month has been arrested in another case.
Levi Colton West, 30, was in Mower County District Court Wednesday to face charges of felony domestic assault and damage to property as well as gross misdemeanor interfering with an emergency call and misdemeanor obstruction of the legal process.
West already has three convictions on his record for domestic abuse-related cases. He was sentenced to one year supervised probation in October of 2024 for domestic assault and damage to property — both misdemeanors.
West will be sentenced for the other two cases on June 26. One of the cases involved a misdemeanor for violating a domestic abuse no contact order and the other is a gross misdemeanor violation of a domestic abuse no contact order.
In this most recent case, Austin Police Department officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 27th Street SW at around 9:47 a.m. on June 16 regarding a 911 call in which the victim could be heard saying, “help me.”
According to the court complaint, the first officer on scene witnessed West next to a vehicle, who then fled after seeing the officer. The officer made contact with the victim who was in the vehicle, while another officer arriving on scene paced West in his squad car as he fled into a field.
West then stopped and began walking back when the original officer made contact with his Taser pulled and pointed downward while West allegedly yelled, “shoot me.”
West was ordered to stop and turn around, which he failed to do. The officer ordered him again and when West failed to comply was Tased and taken into custody.
According to the victim, the incident began with an argument and turned aggressive. It further escalated with West trying to batter down a locked bathroom door and learned that the police were called, allegedly striking the victim with an open handed slap leaving a one-inch cut/red mark.
The complaint goes on to say that damages to the house, including holes punched in the sheetrock, a hole punched through a door, a broken window and the victim’s cell phone, was greater than $1,000.
West’s next court date for this course will be an omnibus hearing on July 7.
