OSAGE – Poet and writer Kendall Dunkelberg will read from his new book of poetry, “Tree Fall with Birdsong,” during an event at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, at the Fireside Room at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. A book signing will follow the reading and copies will be available for purchase.
Dunkelberg, an Osage native, is a professor of English at Mississippi University for Women where he is the department chairman of Languages, Literacy and Philosophy. He also directs a low-residency Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing, and the Eudora Welty Writers’ Symposium. He is also the author of “A Writer’s Craft,” a creative writing text.
“Tree Fall with Birdsong,” his fourth and most recent book of poetry, explores the natural world around the poet’s home in Mississippi and delves into memories of the rural landscapes of Iowa where he was raised and other places he has traveled.
Mississippi Poet Laureate Ann Fisher-Wirth called “Tree Fall with Birdsong” a “sharp-eyed meditation on the natural world and the nature of being human. With extraordinary insight, Dunkelberg considers again and again an essential question: ‘What is mortality in the face of this life.’”
His other books of poetry include “Barrier Island Suite,” “Time Capsules,” and “Landscapes and Architectures.”
Light refreshments will be offered. The free event is co-sponsored by The Alpha Writers and the Fine Arts Council of Mitchell County.
