Helen D. Stier (Christopherson), 91
Helen D. Stier (Christopherson), 91, of Grand Meadow, MN, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, after battling complications of Influenza A. She was surrounded by family at her second home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Helen was born to Arthur and Charlotte Christopherson on March 30, 1933, in Beavertown Township outside Ostrander, MN. She then spent her years growing up in the Ostrander and Spring Valley areas. Helen, also known as “Chris”, was very active in school activities and graduated from Spring Valley High School in the Spring of 1951. After high school she worked as a dental assistant in Spring Valley, and eventually met her husband Jerry (Stier), amongst friends at the Spring Valley bowling alley. Helen and Jerry were married on June 27, 1953, at St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church in Grand Meadow. They lived in Valdosta, GA while Jerry was in the Air Force, and then moved back to Grand Meadow where they were lifetime residents and raised five children. Helen and Jerry were married 60 years prior to Jerry passing in August of 2013. Helen was very active in the Grand Meadow community with the American Legion Auxiliary, various St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church groups, Grand Meadow School sports and music booster clubs, Boy Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, and all-around “yes I can help” for any school, church, or town need or fundraiser. Helen also took pride in the years she spent working in various roles at the Grand Meadow School and Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Grand Meadow. Helen loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting, music and other school activities – she particularly loved watching the Superlarks and Gusties! She was so proud to share photos and stories with others about her family. Helen was known for her Christmas cookie trays, dill pickle canning, and making wreaths and apple pies with her best friend Millie Barnes – you could always catch the two of them giggling in the kitchen. A lover of all animals, bird watching, gardening, art and decorating, music and dancing – never gave up on the MN Vikings – and always looked forward to conversation over happy hour, or with a glass of sweet wine beneath the stars. More affectionately known as “Grams” or “Mammacita”, Helen enjoyed life to the fullest – especially in her years since Jerry’s passing, when she was taken on many trips, and was always up for an adventure. Helen spent the past 12 winters in Arizona and became a huge hit at the The Mirabel Club in Scottsdale. She was dearly loved by the Mirabel family (members & restaurant/bar staff), where she introduced them to the “Mammacita Fuzzy Navel”. Helen is survived by her children Craig (Carol) Stier of Grand Meadow, Deb (Randy) Queensland of Grand Meadow, Jane Stier (Tony Moyer) of Sidney, Iowa, and Jill (Mike) Smith of Grand Meadow, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, brother Roy Christopherson of Spring Valley, sister Shirley Bergman of Grand Meadow, sister-in-law Joanne Christopherson of Wabasha, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry, daughter Diane Hodge, parents Arthur and Charlotte Christopherson, brother Lester Christopherson, sister Mildred Payne, brother Dennis Christopherson, and by many beloved family fur babies through the years.
A Graveside Service will be officiated by family friend Father Nathan LaLiberte, with American Legion Post 140 Honor Guard, at 2pm on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at St. Finbarr’s Catholic Cemetery in Grand Meadow. A Celebration of Life Party will then follow at the home of Mike & Jill Smith in Grand Meadow. All are welcome to come and celebrate Helen with all her favorite eats and treats. Please bring your love and stories to share. In lieu of gifts please donate to an animal shelter or bird sanctuary, or better yet, adopt a rescue in Helen’s memory! Watch for Helen’s spirit in the beauty of nature, AND ALWAYS FEED THE BIRDS!!!
