In Loving Memory of Frederick Leo Koenigs January 11th, 1941 – June 21st, 2025

Frederick Leo Koenigs, age 84, of Adams, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin, Minnesota. Frederick (Freddie) was born to Thomas and Mildred (Gilgenbach) Koenigs, January 11th, 1941, in Adams Township, Mower County, Minnesota. For most of his life, Freddie farmed his parents’ homestead outside of Adams. Freddie purchased the farm from his parents when they moved into town. Freddie loved farming. He was also a milk hauler, as well as an entrepreneur who started his own trucking business, Fred Koenigs Trucking, with the motto: You call, we haul, big or small. He hauled livestock, grain, and even an occasional truck full of furniture to help people move.

Freddie was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Adams and was an active member in several area clubs and organizations.

On September 1st, 1979, Freddie married Jean Joyce (Kenyon) Westphal at Sacred Heart Church in Adams, Minnesota. He instantly became a stepdad to five daughters. It was not an easy life, to say the least, but Freddie had a good heart and showed kindness to his family in many ways.

In retirement, he enjoyed mowing his lawn and yearly ice fishing trips up north with his siblings. He loved gathering with his buddies to play cards and did so almost daily, until 2022, when he moved to Sacred Heart Care Center.

Freddie enjoyed time spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Although Freddie did not have any biological children, he always said that he felt as if David Huntley was more of a son to him than a nephew (he was!). Fred was a middle child with many siblings: Marian, Catherine, John, Theresa, Ronald, and Richard.

Frederick was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mildred; sister and brothers-in-law, Marian Huntley-Lickteig, Donald Huntley, and Fred Lickteig; infant sister, Catherine; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Teresa Koenigs; brother-in-law, Roger Harding; niece, Debra Kiefer; father and mother-in-law, Richard and June Kenyon; and son-in-law, Jack Cain, four of whom passed since February of 2025.

Freddie’s family and loved ones who will cherish the good times, include his wife, Jean Koenigs Austin, MN; children, Tamara Kelley, LeRoy, MN, Tina Westphal, Prescott, AZ, Cheri Cain, Aurora, CO, Paulette (Gary) Huntley, Austin, MN, Michelle Gabbard, Adams, MN, and David Huntley, Adams, MN; grandchildren: Steven Newkirk, Jacob Newkirk, Brian (Evan) Kelley, Zachariah Kelley, David (Ashley) Lidtke, Deric Kramer, Christie Albers, Kelly Albers, Michael (Megan) Huntley, Micayla (James) Huntley, Riley Hansen, Marisa (Tanner) Meyers, Lyndee (Mike) Meyerhoffer; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Theresa Harding, Nashua, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Carol) Koenigs, Rochester, MN, Richard (Pat) Koenigs, Stewartville, MN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
