Area authors as well as wanna-be authors have a chance to write flash fiction for publication and an opportunity to appear on this year’s Austin ArtWorks Festival Author Stage.
A flash fiction workshop is being offered by Sweet Reads Books and Candy as a pre-event warm-up to the Author Stage event.
“We want to ignite everyone’s imagination,” said Lisa Deyo, owner of Sweet Reads Books and Candy and sponsor of the workshop. “Flash fiction is a fun way for tenured authors to expand their skills and is a great way for novice and wanna-be writers to learn how to write and complete a story.”
Flash fiction is a very short form of prose narrative written in 1,500 words, or fewer. The workshop offers participants instruction in the art of crafting flash fiction using prompts and writing exercises. Students will also receive personalized direction and feedback from experienced local published authors, Ricki Walters and Morgan Carlson, who will facilitate the class.
All participants will be offered an opportunity to publish their finished stories in a booklet made available locally for the ArtWorks Festival, as well as compete for a spotlight on the Author Stage during the festival.
The workshop is scheduled to take place at the Austin Public Library from noon to 1 p.m. on June 12 and 26. To register, call or text Ricki Walters at 507-279-4668 or email her at rickiwalters13@gmail.com. Registration will remain open until the beginning of the first class, but those interested are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to secure a spot for themselves due to limited seating.
The flash fiction workshop is offered in conjunction with the Austin ArtWorks Festival scheduled Aug. 30- 31, downtown Austin.
