Austin Public Schools has announced the hiring of Ashley Kaplan as the new K-4 Curriculum and EL Coordinator at Austin Public Schools.
Kaplan, who has worked in education for more than 15 years, holds a BA in Social Studies Education from the College of Saint Benedict, a M.Ed. in Reading and Literacy from Benedictine University, and both a K-12 Principal License and a Superintendent License from St. Mary’s University.
She is also pursuing a doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University. She has experience both in the classroom and in administration, most recently as the Director of Student and Staff Support Systems at Kasson-Mantorville.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ashley Kaplan to Austin Public Schools,” said Dr. Katie Baskin, Executive Director of Academics and Administrative Services. “Her extensive experience in instructional leadership and her proven commitment to improving student outcomes make her a valuable addition to our team. Her passion for literacy and dedication to collaborative work align perfectly with our priorities. We look forward to the positive impact she will have on teaching and learning across the system.”
Throughout her educational career, Kaplan has worked to “[foster] positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, families, and community members to create a supportive and inclusive school environment” where both students and staff can thrive and succeed.
“I am honored to join Austin Public Schools,” Kaplan said. “It is very exciting to become part of a strengths-based culture grounded in a clear vision, mission, and strategic direction. I am inspired by the district’s strong leadership and its deep commitment to school-community partnerships. I look forward to collaborating across departments and schools to support staff and enhance student learning—so that together, we can inspire, empower, and accelerate every student’s potential.”
Kaplan will be taking over for retiring K-4 Curriculum and EL Coordinator Sheila Berger, who has been with the district for nearly 24 years.
