The Austin track and field team had a pair of first time state qualifiers on day one of the Section 1AA meet in Faribault Thursday.

Austin senior Laura Bekaert threw a personal record throw of 129 feet, five inches in discus to take second and advance to state and Austin junior Myles Taylor took second in triple jump with a distance of 42-1.50 to get to state.

The second day of the meet will be held in Faribault on Saturday.
