Thomas W. Morem, 92

Thomas Wayne Morem, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on May 1, 2025, after a short stay of two weeks with Mayo Hospice.

Tom was born February 7, 1933 in Harmony, Minnesota to Arnold and Bessie Morem.  He was baptized and confirmed at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony.

He graduated from Harmony High School in 1951, after which he attended Luther College for one year.  He then enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany from 1952-1954 during the Korean War.

After his discharge he enrolled in the School of Mortuary Science in Minneapolis, Minnesota and interned at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, after which he obtained his mortuary science license.  In 1956 he met Gwendolyn Anderson who was teaching in Willmar.  They married on July 26, 1958 at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, Minnesota.

Tom then began working at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin.  After five years, he decided to further his education and became a CPA, eventually establishing his own CPA firm in Austin.  When he retired, he sold his practice to Clifton Allen Larson.

Tom was an avid golfer at the Austin Country Club, a past president of Sertoma, a member of the Austin American Legion Post #91, and a 67 year member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church having served on the Foundation and church council.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Gwen of Austin; son, David of Roseville; daughter, Ann (Mark), of Austin; grandsons, Trey Ellingson of Austin, Payton Boyd of Evansville, IN; step great grandchildren, Kyla Jaworski (Ryan), Ethan Jaworski, of Evansville, IN; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hauck of Madison, MN, Ruth Anderson, Oconomowoc, WI; also several loving nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends and neighbors.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers.

Tom was a quiet, thoughtful man who enjoyed sports, especially playing golf.  He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kris Ferkin officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church.  A private interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
