Rita Jane Meidl, 101
Rita Jane Meidl, age 101, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at her home in Austin. Rita was born on October 12, 1923, to Emil and Elizabeth (Staloch) Schultz in Easton, Minnesota. She attended school in New Ulm and worked at Union Hospital in New Ulm in the x-ray unit as a housekeeper and seamstress. On June 11, 1946, she married the love of her life, Walter H. Meidl at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm and they were blessed with seven children. Rita was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. She enjoyed praying, reading, knitting and sewing.
Rita is survived by her children, Marjorie (Steven) Grossman, Linda (Keith) Schroeder, Michael Meidl, Mark Meidl, Mary Goettcha, and Carol Knight; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Elizabeth Schultz; husband, Walter Meidl; son, Walter “Wally” Meidl, Jr.; son-in-law, Dennis Knight; and her siblings.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Austin with Father Raul Silva officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. The family prefers memorials to Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
